My name is Oliver, I’m 29 years old, I’m currently a senior account executive at a tech start-up called Dial Pad and I’m very excited and relieved that I graduated college by the age of 29.
I just want to share my story on how it came about and I honestly didn’t think it would happen.
My Story
I went to a normal four year university and I had over 112 credits. Unfortunately, there was some things that happened in my family that caused me to drop out of college and get a job right away. Having a job is great, but not having a college education set me back. It was extremely frustrating because I couldn’t get interviews since I didn’t have a degree or that check mark. It really set me back for a long time. Every time I tried to go back to the four year university I was at or go to an online university, they always required so many different credits that weren’t transferable. So you’re looking at a minimum of 60 credits at the university, and that would be a lot of money.
I was working a full time job so luckily I connected with Janine and that was the time I got my job at Dial Pad. I almost told her I couldn’t do this but she sat down with me, went over the credits of what I exactly needed, all the classes, different online communities I could go to in order to finish my degree in 4 months.
I didn’t believe it would be possible but I’m so glad she pushed me and really took the time to figure out exactly what I needed. She sat-in on my academic advising calls and it was a really awesome moment to say that I graduated from college and to share that with my friends and family. I couldn’t be more proud.
If you’re anything like me, I know it feels really intimidating and it feels like it’s not going to happen but Janine makes it so much easier and lays it out right for you and it’s a clear path.
If you ever want to talk, I highly recommend talking with Janine. I definitely have her back.
Thank you so much Janine, I couldn’t be more happy and I really appreciate everything you’ve done.
Thank you for sharing your story! This makes me think of my nephews who are in their 30's and were never able to get their degree. I am going to share your story with them.
